Welcome to the Trust Talk Sessions. Join a collective of former guests and I for a 19 day dive into Trust to celebrate 100 episodes of Trust your Sacred Feminine Flow. Each conversation offers an intimate glimpse into the challenges and precious moments experienced in our journey to trust.

Tanya Penny, OTR, Author of Connect with The Divine You, Vibrant Body & Abundant Life Coach, teaches, empowers, and supports you to fully love yourself, and heal past trauma & chronic illness using her mind-body-spirit methodology. For 25 years, she experienced anxiety, depression, pain, insomnia, and carried extra weight. In 2004, Tanya was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. That was her wake-up call that there were some deeper issues in need of love, attention, and release, that medications, lifestyle changes, and medical interventions couldn’t touch.

It wasn’t easy (she had to peel back the layers and really look into herself) and it wasn’t quick (it took years), but she healed. Tanya believes there is a place and a time for doctors and Western medicine, but if you are 100% committed to healing all areas of your life, your soul is called to go on a journey as well. Now, she teaches the Therapeutic Meditation Process™ (T.M.P.) and the 10 Keys to a Vibrant Body & Abundant Life™, trusting that they will find their way into the hearts and lives of those who need it, and are ready to take the journey.

Joni

Welcome to the Trust Talk Sessions. I’m your host, Joni Advent Maher, I’m delighted that you’re here with us. And so happy to welcome back Tanya Penny. Tanya was a guest, I think it was three years ago. Her episode was the Power of Beliefs. It was episode 018, a very powerful episode. So Tanya is the author of The Connect with the Divine You. Vibrant Body and abundant life coach. And she teaches, empowers and supports her clients to fully love themselves and heal past trauma, chronic illness through her unique mind, body, spirit methodology. And for 25 years she personally experienced anxiety, depression, pain, insomnia and carried extra weight. And then in 2004, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and that was her big wake up call that there were some deeper issues that needed her love and attention and release and that more so than medications, lifestyle changes and medical interventions couldn’t touch. So I want to welcome you Tanya, back to the podcast.

Tanya

Yay. Hello everybody. Thank you so much for having me, Joni. I just love, I mean, this is so great. And thank you for doing this.

Joni: My pleasure. And so fun.

Tanya

Yes, absolutely. Sisters from another Mister. I think we’ve, we’ve talked about before.so it’s pleasure to be here,

Joni

Yes, yes, yes, yes. So I would love to just dive in and see what, what’s going on with you and trust. Tell us about how trust has woven into your own journey, your work with your clients. What, what’s here for you today on this topic?

Tanya

Wow. I feel like I have been a, a deeper dive student of trust probably in the last couple of months. I mean, obviously it took a lot of trust too. Mmm. You know, I’m thinking back to the MS and it took a very deep about a trust to say, you know what, I’m not gonna not going to go Western medicine anymore. I’m going to go the alternative route. Cause that in 2007 when I decided to do that, it was not very popular. Let’s just put it that way. People thought I lost my mind. So fast forward to today. The last couple of months I had, um, I would say I had another one of those like, Oh, I don’t want to call it a wake up call, but just a deeper invitation to follow my own guidance. And also the, really trusting in what I call something bigger. I had moved to California last fall, maybe it was the end of summer and I hadn’t, I mean, I didn’t know anybody here. I was just guided to move here and my ego was like, what?!

Like California? Sure. It’s beautiful, but it is expensive as you know what? So not, it was not popular with my ego. We’ll just say that it was, that was not a popular piece of guidance that came through. But, I do know from past experience that if I don’t follow my guidance that the potential of me getting sick again would be very big.

Joni: Wow.

Tanya

So I, I followed it and I was here a few months and then I had an, um, I would say I had a, an opportunity to heal a deeper layer of trauma. I had an opportunity with my landlord that was not pleasant and triggered a PTSD response. And again, I was guided to leave and that was not easy. It meant giving up my deposit. It meant giving up. Yeah, it meant giving up like $3,000. You know, money is money, but, I got strong guidance that this isn’t working out and I need to get out of here.

I need to break my lease. I need to get out of here. Or again, I will, if I, if I forced myself to stay like I had to in childhood, I will get sick. Well, I will get MS back again. So I left.  And then fast forward to April 1st. Yes. April fool’s day. I can’t even make this up. April fool’s day, I wake up in the morning, I do my meditation and the guidance says, time to go back to California.

Joni: Oh boy.

Tanya

And I said, really? I’m in Florida right now. I met April 1st. I’m in Florida, I’m at my friend’s house, who I’ve been staying with and, and yeah, go back. It’s time to go back to California. And I’m like, when? And it was like now. And I was like, really? I’m going to move during COVID like I was. Yeah, it was yes, move. And so that I did, one week later.

Joni: Wow. This goes into the category of radical trust.

Tanya

This is radical trust. This is crazy. I mean, I have smaller examples, but I can’t help but share it. I mean, every year is not like this for me, but this past year has really been, it has been insane when it comes to like, Oh, you want, you want this or you want that. Okay, let’s go deeper into your trust. Wow, let’s go work with that. And so yeah, here I am in Sausalito and my new divine place, which I mean, here’s the thing about trust, Joni, that I think it’s really important to share is that when you follow, like when you actually move beyond the fear, and I’m not saying I didn’t have fear. Are you kidding me? I had tons of fear come up.

Joni: Crazy fear. Yeah.

Tanya

Crazy. Crazy fear. But I have gotten to the point where I’m able to soothe those fears so that I can follow that guidance. Because you know, I also tell myself when I’m afraid, look, look back, look at all the times that you trusted and followed your guidance.

Joni: Yes.

Tanya

And maybe it didn’t always turn out the way your ego wanted it to turn out, but you got exactly what you needed.

Joni: Yes.

Tanya

Cause we’re here to heal and grow. Right. He’ll grow, evolve as a, as a soul. That’s what we’re here for. Um, so yeah, some of us pick the hard, the really hard path and some of us have a little bit easier. But um, you know, I think, I think trust takes practice.

Joni

Yes you were. You are not the first one to use that word, but I think you’re absolutely right. It, it does take practice and it, it also, it seems like it takes choice and some will willingness on our power, on our part to choose that and to say, yes, I’m going to trust.

Tanya

It is a choice. It’s a choice we all have. And I’m not saying it’s easy because I’ve had plenty of past experiences, like I said earlier, where I and I would get guidance to leave a relationship and I wouldn’t, I’d stay because I was afraid. Yes. Right. I was, I was afraid to be on my own. I had a belief that I couldn’t support myself. I had a belief that I wasn’t safe to be alone. So, um, so yeah, I mean we all have fears and I don’t recommend bulldozing either necessarily like, but we have to get all those parts of us on board.

Joni

Yes. Yes. And there’s, there’s something I’m getting about the unknown and you seem particularly well suited in that you keep getting these invitations to go deeper because not, not all of us are living the unknown in the way that I hear you doing it. This radical trust and the stepping into the unknown. So I just want to honor that and acknowledge that cause it’s big and it’s powerful.

Tanya

Yeah. Thank you. And it’s, it’s crazy. I mean, thank you for acknowledging that because it’s crazy that I have a really, even though I teach what I teach, do what I do, do these things, I still have a hard time patting myself on the back. Right. Cause the ego will still want to come in and, and say, okay, you know, all the old, all the old records. Yes. Right. Like you are so messed up that like just all sorts of crazy stuff saying like there’s this thing like, Oh my God, look what I just did. I mean, my friend the other day was like, I said, I’m having a really hard time right now. I feel kind of depressed and I’m motivated. She’s like, dude, you just move. You moved to California in the middle of COVID. She’s like, can you maybe give yourself a little bit of a break? I was like, Oh, Oh yeah. Yeah. That would be my, my super woman and my perfectionist trying to kick my ass again. But I’m not going to let them,

Joni

No, no, don’t, you don’t let them. They need to just back off in my opinion. Okay. So I, I want you to share a little bit more about your book because one of our lucky listeners is going to get the opportunity to win your book. So I’d love for you to share a bit more about that.

Tanya

Yeah, absolutely. So my book, Connect with the Divine You was, gosh, I would say it’s the foundation for all of my work. It’s the foundation. Um, for, it was actually the foundation for me healing ms, anxiety, depression, trauma. So the book is a, um, it’s kind of a fun combination of my therapeutic meditation process, so teaching everybody about the therapeutic meditation process, which in a nutshell helps you to connect with and accept all parts of you. So there’s the self acceptance and love piece. And so you’re connecting with your body and the messages your body’s bringing you, you’re learning healthy ways to feel and release emotions, which we all know, most of us didn’t learn that growing up. And it also helps to shift these limiting beliefs and fears that we’ve been kind of talking about through this interview today with this conversation today. Yeah. So, and it’s, and it also helps you plant the seeds for what to get clear on and plant the seeds for what you really desire in your life. So, um, there’s also really, I think they’re entertaining. Each chapter there is a

Joni: Own it, own it, girl.

Tanya

Each chapter, one of my wonderful clients wrote a piece about the experience with using the therapeutic meditation process, where they were and then how it helped them, and where they are today because they used it. So I, you know, I feel like I’ve heard so many comments from people that are like, wow, I could really relate to that person, you know? And that really gave me hope. Hmm. Because I was dealing with this thing and, and here this person was too and they got over it, you know, they healed it. So, yeah. And I, you know, I could be a funny person too, even in writing. So, you know, keeping it real, there’s, you know, yes.

Joni

Yes. I always appreciate your, your authenticity and your transparency. You are, you are so good at just telling it like it is. And I know that’s so relatable for your folks you work with.

Tanya

That’s one of my gifts that some people think it’s, you know … I gotta be your flavor of ice cream, Joni, right? Like we all have our own flavors. Some people are like, that’s just too much. So you gotta like the Tanya Penny flavor.

Joni

That’s right, that’s right. So I want to remind you, listeners, that to win, to be eligible to win Tanya’s book, Connect with the Divine You, you can go to, we have a popup Facebook group, the Trust Talk Sessions, Facebook group and all the information is there. And we will have the link in the show notes if you’re interested in purchasing the book because I know, probably more than one person would, would really get some benefit and use and, and wanting to get their hands on this book.

Tanya

Thank you. Thank you for sharing that. And yeah, though those, whoever wins the copy, it will be a signed copy and I will put in also just an intuitive message that I get for the person that wins it.

Joni: Oooooh cool, cool, cool. I love that. I love that.

Tanya

Yeah. Yeah. So just a little extra fun in there. We all, we all need that right now.

Joni

Yes, we do! We do. We need to weave that pleasure and fun into our days. I agree with you. So tell us, remind us, I think your website is Tanyapenny.com. Yes?

Tanya

Yes. It’s tanyapenny.com. Like the coin, the coin and there’s also a wonderful free gift if you go to the website, It is my 10 Vibrant Body and Abundant Life Keys Blueprint Guide, which has a PDF guide and an audio lesson and a guided therapeutic meditation practice, which helps to do pretty much everything I explained that’s in the book. It helps you to accept and love yourself more, which I know everybody on the planet pretty much needs. And just saying. It helps you to release a feeling, release some emotions, plant seeds for what you desire and shift those limiting beliefs and fears that are holding you back from, from trusting yourself, following your guidance and just receiving. Right? Receiving in all areas of your life.

Joni

Yes. Yes. Yes. So before we close, just is there any final truth or nugget that just feels important to name or share?

Tanya: So one of my favorite quotes is “progress, not perfection.”

Joni: Mmm

Tanya

So like I know that when you’re listening to my story today, you know, as we do, we compare, right? And Oh my God, I’ll never be that courageous. Or Oh my God, I never trust myself that much. Or you know, I always like to tell my clients baby steps, right? Baby steps, progress, not perfection. So what does even one little thing, one little thread that you’re like, Oh, I got guidance to do this but I haven’t been. And it’s like, yeah, so what’s just one little step in that direction? So maybe it’s you’re researching something, maybe your, you know what I mean?  And making the list about something so it doesn’t have to be this huge leap today. You know what I mean? Like when we get guidance, like, I mean, I’ll just add like, you know, I got guidance, leave my marriage way back and I didn’t leave the next day for that one.

Joni: Yes.

Tanya: Or even a week later, I left two years later.

Joni: Right, right.

Tanya

So, yeah, so it doesn’t mean you get guidance. It doesn’t have to be like the huge leap right away. Sometimes it is, but yeah, progress, not perfection.

Joni

Wonderful. Yeah, that’s a great note to end on because I, I think we all have that voice in our head that says not enough, not enough. But if we can hold that frame of, I only have to take one small step, it, it, it helps counteract that so powerfully.

Tanya

Absolutely. And then the next small step and the next small step, it’s like all you gotta do today. You don’t have to be superwoman.

Joni: No, that’s how we get there. All right. Penny, penny,

Tanya: That’s okay, I got two first names. Everybody does it.

Joni

Tanya. Sorry, I’ve been doing interviews. I’ve done a lot of interviews today, so I’m a little punchy at this point, but thank you for being with us and, and being so generous and present.

Tanya

Well, thank you. I appreciate it and appreciate the opportunity to share something that might help somebody listening. So thank you so much for doing this. I know it’s a labor of love. It’s a lot of work and I appreciate it.

Joni

Yes, thank you. And I, I want to thank you, dear listener, for being with us as well, and reminder that if you would like to enter to win Tanya’s book, you can go to the Trust Talk Sessions Facebook group and get all the scoop on that and we’ll be giving that away later today. And I also want to just to remind you, as always, as always, to trust what your heart knows.
